Cartoon Network has given the greenlight to 26 additional half-hour episodes of ED, EDD N EDDY, produced by creator Danny Antonucci’s aka Cartoons in Vancouver, will start airing in 2005.

With 52 episodes already produced, it is one of Cartoon Network's top-rated original series since its debut in January 1999, particularly popular with boys. The 26 new episodes join an existing order for three new half-hour holiday specials, announced previously, that are currently in production. The first of these, a Christmas special, will air in December 2004.

ED, EDD N EDDY tells the story of three best friends who have the same first name and live on the same cul-de-sac in the suburbs. But the three boys' personalities are as different as they are ridiculous. The Eds are driven by their constant quest for money, to spend on things like jawbreakers. Bolstered by adolescent ignorance, Ed (the tall, gullible one), Edd (the smart, polite one) and Eddy (the resident entrepreneur and unofficial leader) plunge headlong into outlandish adventures that are incredibly close to every child's real life.

While the first 52 half-hour episodes focused on the summer days spent seeking knowledge, acceptance and some cash, the new adventures will explore how the Eds fare during the rest of the year. The shows central cast of characters, (including the Kanker Sisters, Sarah, Jimmy, Rolf, Nazz, Jimmy 2x4 and Plank), will remain the same, but, in the new episodes, the Eds' world is affected by the pressures of school, snow and life outside the cul-de-sac.

"ED, EDD N EDDY has been one of our most popular original series, from the day it launched. In fact, it's still picking up steam with viewers. It's a tribute to Danny's vision and sensibility that kids find these characters so compelling and likeable," said Jim Samples, evp/gm, Cartoon Network. "We can't wait to see what Danny and his crew have dreamed up for the three holiday specials and the 26 new half-hours."

"Cartoon Network's enthusiasm, and my willingness to dive head first again into 26 more ED, EDD N EDDY half-hours, only shows the magnetism these characters have earned," said Danny Antonucci, creator/exec producer of ED, EDD N EDDY. "The Eds have evolved past typical moving penciled drawings to become living, breathing characters. Audiences around the world would love to move into their neighborhood. It's an animator's dream come true, and the true mark of a classic cartoon."

Cartoon Network, currently seen in 86 million U.S. homes and 145 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System Inc.'s 24-hour, ad-supported cable service offering animated entertainment.
