Justin Bieber’s fast rise to worldwide stardom is the crux of this 3-D documentary and concert experience, chronicling Bieber and the 10 days leading up to his sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. Interspersed with shots of vocal warm-ups and autograph signings are interviews with Bieber’s parents, teachers and friends, which help paint the pop star as a regular Canadian kid with extraordinary talent. However, interviews with his team of producers, managers and security paint him in different strokes: To them, he's a carefully crafted product to be peddled at every radio station and talk show in the country. Footage from Bieber’s 2010 tour includes panoramic shots of packed concert venues and crying girls pledging their undying love for the star. The film also features full-length song performances from his tour, and that’s where the charmer really turns his swag on. Looking directly into the camera lens, the singer’s 3-D finger points through the screen at the movie audience as he belts out sugary sweet lyrics. Once the mildly interesting back-story of his rise to stardom is covered, though, there are only so many more flippant teenage remarks and corny dance moves one can take before the watch-checking begins. For Bieber Fever skeptics out there, this movie may read as an hour-and-45-minute-long commercial, but for the true Beliebers (as the fans call themselves), it's just a way to get to know Bieber even better. —Emily Apisa
