Many of you may know that I’m launching a new startup called Passionate Produce – a radically inclusive, sex-positive crowdfunding platform. Now that the site is open for beta testers, I’m looking for a contract sysadmin.

This is a part-time job that will require working with Linux, Postgres, and Nginx; setting up automated backups; and maintaining uptime on a production server. Previous experience with Rails, Memcached, and scaling production sites a plus. Compensation is negotiable (1099).

Passionate Produce has opened for beta testing!

Passionate Produce is my new startup: a radically inclusive, sex/kink-positive crowdfunding platform. If you’re subscribed to our newsletter, shortly you should be receiving an email invite.

This is one of the scariest things I’ve done in a long time.  I want to push the site forward and get good feedback, but it’s hard to invite folks in when I know about all the things that still need tweaking.  Will people come away with a positive impression of my company, or have I just made an epic mistake?

All I can do is take a deep breath and see what happens!

The Hammer goes to Burning Man!

I just got accepted to present as part of Phage’s lecture series during Burning Man!  If any of you will be out on the playa, please come and see my talk.

  • What: Me talking about DIY sex toys complete with a toy prototype demo (a new version of The Hammer)
  • When: Monday night (8/26). Lectures start at 8pm, I’m slated to be last speaker (theoretically starting at 8:45pm-ish)
  • Where: The Phage dome. Phage is part of The Institute (with False Profit and the Relaxomats) at 5:00 and Esplanade, between Death Guild and the Red Nose District.

Can’t make my talk? Assuming the playa isn’t too hard on my prototype, I expect to be wearing it most evenings. After all, how could I go to Burning Man without a large, glowing, rainbow penis?

Seeking sex-positive Ruby on Rails developer for short-term project

These days I’m spending most of my time launching my new startup, Passionate Produce (passionateproduce.com) — a sex-positive, kink-positive crowdfunding platform. I’m looking for a Ruby on Rails developer for contract work leading up to launch; if things go well, I’d also be interested in further site maintenance and enhancements.

The website is a whitelabel crowdfunding platform based on Catarse, and now I need someone to do customization (Somerville/Cambridge/Boston-area preferred). I’m estimating it’s around 20-40 hours of work. Experience with Heroku and/or Cloud 66 is a plus. Compensation is negotiable (1099).

Working with Silicone for DIY Toys

The most frequently asked questions I get from this blog are from folks who are interested in making their own toys out of silicone.  Someday I hope to put together a more step-by-step guide which will cover the entire casting process, but at least for now I can tell you about the materials that I’ve used when making my own toys.

Before I get started, let me remind you that I am not a medical doctor.  Please use common sense when selecting materials and designing toys.  I’m presenting you with the best information that I have, but using a condom over any homemade toy is the safest course of action.
