Qatar's Lekhwiya launch Asian campaign with a brave win

DOHA: Qatar Stars League (QSL) outfit Lekhwiya Wednesday launched their debut in the AFC Champions League with an impressive 1-0 over Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia.

A stunning long-range Nam Tae-Hee strike in the second half powered Lekhwiya - the defending and points leaders in QSL - to a stunning victory in the Group C clash played at Jassem Bin Hamad Stadium.

Tae-Hee - a young midfielder with the Korean national side - hoodwinked one defender and then launched a spectacular shot nearly 40 meters from the goal-line. Travelling at a fast pace, the ball swerved before flying into the net leaving Al Ahli goalkeeper Yasser Al Mosailem shell-shocked in the 74th minute.

Coached by Djamel Belmadi, Lekhwiya defended well in the first half before striking gold in the second half in which the home club found the net through Tae-Hee's solo effort.

Lekhwiya - who signed the talented Tae-Hee from French side Valenciennes and Burkina Faso international forward Moumouni Dagano from Al Khor in January - will play hosts Al Nasr of the UAE in their next clash on March 21.
