A few days ago, video surfaced of Pun’s wife making claims that she lives in a homeless shelter & her family struggling. Of course, Fat Joe was painted as the evil villain in the case. Knowing there would be two sides, I didn’t want to really shine light on it until Joe spoke up. Now, he’s released a statement.

“Immediately after Puns death I gave Liza Rios the whole advance of the Endangered Species album, NO ONE but Liza made a dollar off that album. I also gave her the total advance from the publishing company that was due to Big Pun.

I’ve never made a dollar off Big Pun since his passing. This was hundreds of thousands of dollars of frivolous spending, after the second payoff I washed my hands. Since then we have been through 6 lawyers, harassment on various radio stations and online mediums every time she needs more money. I also have legal documents stating that NO ONE is making money off of Big Pun.

I sympathize with Liza, but I have done already done enough for her. In these economic times we as parents need to be resilient and do what it takes to provide for our own families.” [Life Files]

As far as her “fighting” Pun’s memory, I’m thinking she’s having the opposite effect by continuing to detail the domestic abuse while Pun’s not available to share his side of the story. Going in-detail about how he chose to punish the kids & such portrays Pun as evil.

With the money & Joe, my Spidey senses say that Joe’s most likely speaking the truth (aside from the “NO ONE is making money off Pun” statement because someone surely is). There’s been several instances of former Terror Squad members expressing their displeasure with Joe & we all know the music business is full of shady dealings. But saying that he hasn’t given her the money Pun’s estate is entitled to seems strange. In fact, it seems especially odd to consider that he would publicly & financially mistreat the family of his star protege, knowing that fans would be watching with wary eyes. Living artists? Sure, I believe that Joe sits in meetings humming the chorus The ‘Nuts “Do You Believe?” But not with Pun.

At the end of the day, it’s all about getting your affairs in order in black & white.
