Carol Caruso

Carol Caruso is a member on the NAMI Board of Directors and the executive director of NAMI PA Montgomery County Lansdale, Penn. She was previously the director of the Montgomery County Crisis Residential Program in Norristown, Penn.

Ms. Caruso found NAMI through her work in the mental health field. Her commitment to the organization was confirmed with her need for support and help with her foster son, who lived with mental illness.

She hopes to diversify and secure NAMI’s funding sources, assure that NAMI will be available to families in the future as it was to her, and grow NAMI’s services and supports to families with children and adolescents living with mental illness.

Ms. Caruso has a master’s degree in creative arts therapy from Hahnemann University. She is a registered dance therapist and has supervised graduate students from Hahnemann and Antioch Universities. Ms. Caruso worked for 29 years in the field of mental health, holding mostly administrative positions, before serving as executive director at her NAMI affiliate, where she has increased membership and financial resources. She has served as corporate sponsor chair for the Greater Philadelphia NAMIWalks since its inception in 2008. She is currently the co-chair of the 1^st Annual Benefit for the Brain, a dinner event for mental illness research.

Ms. Caruso is recipient of 2007 Robert H. Miller Award from Montgomery County, Penn., Office of Behavioral Health; 2009 Benjamin Rush Award from the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society and 2012 Family Leadership Award from the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
