DERBY County are set to sign Simon Dawkins from Tottenham Hotspur today.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is to join the Rams in a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee, believed to be worth up to £500,000.

Dawkins has spent the past two-and-a-half months on loan and has scored three goals in his 13 appearances.

His contract at Tottenham was due to expire in the summer, although the Premier League club had an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

Dawkins’ contract at Derby is thought to be for two-and-a-half years.

The January transfer window has been open for only a couple of days, yet Derby have also extended the loans of defenders Michael Keane, from Manchester United, and Zak Whitbread, from Leicester City.

Keane will be with Derby until the end of this month, at least, and he can play in Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Chelsea at the iPro Stadium.

He has started the last three games in place of injured skipper Richard Keogh.

Whitbread’s loan will now run until the end of the season.

Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford is set to complete a loan move to Derby.

The final game of the 20-year-old’s loan stay at MK Dons is tomorrow.

Yes, I agree about the need for another playmaker....when Hughes isn't on song or is injured we never seem as effective.

What a great time to be a Derby County supporter. Back Mac and Sam the engine room man.

Also, remember Ben Davies was £500k, so in comparison, money well spent. No offence to enn, he has contributed, but probably not to that level of price tag. Dawkins adds a bit extra for the cash.

I had a lot of doubts in the early games from Dawkins, but having watched over the last few games, Blackpool especially, he is clearly a player that still has potential and probably hasn't even hit stride yet. Let's hope Mac gets even more out of him, I think £500k is fair, especially if he keeps improving the way he has been.

Personally thought it wouldnt be arouund this mark, was thinking £250,000 - £300,00 seeing as he has not featured for the ***s.. Then again its nice to see us spending 500k on a player and fans being happy with it as we know he can do the business... bit different to the old days where we would spend 500k on a certain Maguire for example who we didnt know!

In my book it is ggod news when a good player wants to sign for us - especially when he has been on the "inside". Shows what a good club and team spirit we have

All good news. Bearing in mind eustace was only bought to help us out in the last ten minutes of away games, he has done unbelievably well for us; almost a legend already! ;-) But we really do need a permanent young replacement for him. Hendrick is not that man. also someone else in the squad that is a play maker, Hughes'esque.
