Key date for Salford supermarket

A new Tesco supermarket opening in Salford is approaching completion with only two weeks to go until its launch.

Construction manager Alan Hume presented store manager Richard Hatley with the keys to the site, on the land of former St James School, which represents the end of the building work.

The management team received over 4,000 applications for a variety of roles at the new store, from team leaders through to general assistants.

Following the huge success of the recruitment campaign, Richard said: “I am astonished by the sheer volume of applications we received throughout the recruitment process, the standard of applications has been extremely high, making decisions very tough. I am delighted with my new team and looking forward to working with them.”

Store staff can now prepare the supermarket for the opening at 8am on Thursday 15th November. The official launch celebrations will take place later that morning at 10am, when the store will make £1000 worth of donations to the local community.

Richard continued: “My team and I are counting down the days until we can open the doors and welcome our first customers. We are now working hard to ensure that the store is perfect for the residents of Salford and the surrounding area.”

“Our aim is to provide fantastic customer service whilst offering great value for money to people living or working in the area who want a convenient place to shop”.

As well as all the everyday essential items, the store will offer shoppers a range of services including fresh meat and fish counter, pizza and hot chicken counter, bakery, customer café, Timpson’s, a phone shop, Tech support team, petrol filling station, clothing and a health and beauty department. There will also be a free Click & Collect desk where shoppers can pick up orders on electricals, home-wares and toys at no extra cost.

In addition the store will be one of the first in the country to offer a Baby World department. Shoppers will be able to pick up everything for young toddlers including pushchairs, prams, car seats, dummies and cots, at competitive prices.

The store will continue its celebrations following the launch with a range of free events, including an appearance from Moshi Monsters and Mike the Knight, a Cash Cube event where customers will have the opportunity to win a share of £2,000 in Tesco gift cards and an appearance from Father Christmas and his real reindeer. The store has also appointed a Community Champion who will be dedicated to supporting the local community.

The new store will open at 8am on Thursday 15th November. After opening day the store is open for 24 hours from Monday 00.01 through to midnight on Saturday and from 11am - 5pm Sunday.
