Born in East Chicago, Indiana in 1933, Edelson began her career as an activist and artist around the age of fourteen. She has been highly active in race relations and civil rights movements as well as the second and third generation feminist art movements. Her work is the permanent collections of major museums such as The Guggenheim Museum of Art, the MCA, and MOMA. She has a an MA from New York University and an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from DePauw University, IN. She is a prolific and highly diverse artist who remains active and influential to this day.
