Jan Bayer is President of WELT-Group and Printing and Member of the Management Board at Axel Springer, one of Germany's biggest media groups. He supervises several leading German newspapers and online media brands and is responsible for the printing plants at Axel Springer. Bayer joined Axel Springer in 2006 as Head of the Executive Office for newspapers and then became Managing Director of Hamburger Abendblatt. In 2008, he became Chairman of the Management Board of the WELT-Group/Berliner Morgenpost/Hamburger Abendblatt, where he was responsible for all quality newspaper brands at Axel Springer. Bayer is Vice-President of BDZV (Federation of German Newspaper Publishers) and a frequent lecturer at various universities and conferences on issues related to news publishing strategies. He started his career at Süddeutsche Zeitung, where he became Managing Director in 2004. Bayer is a graduate of the University of Hannover in Germany and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA.
