Oscar® Nominees Honored at Academy Luncheon

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored this year’s Oscar contenders at its annual Nominees Luncheon on March 11, 2002, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

105 nominees, from 23 categories, gathered at noon for the traditional pre-Awards luncheon.

Among the attendees were, Leading Actor and Actress categories, Russell Crowe, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Tom Wilkinson, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Sissy Spacek. Jennifer Connelly, Helen Mirren, Marisa Tomei, Kate Winslet, Ethan Hawke, Ben Kingsley and Jon Voight represented the Supporting Acting categories.


105 Oscar nominees gathered for the 21st Annual Academy Nominees Luncheon.


In attendance from the Directing category were Robert Altman, Ron Howard, David Lynch and Ridley Scott. Nominated writers who attended were Milo Addica, Daniel Clowes, Ted Elliott, Julian Fellowes, Rob Festinger, Todd Field, Akiva Goldsman, Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan, Will Rokos, Terry Rossio, Roger S. H. Schulman, Joe Stillman and Terry Zwigoff.

Sidney Poitier, who will receive an Honorary Oscar at this year’s show, and Arthur Hiller, who will accept the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, and Edmund M. Di Giulio, who received the Gordon E. Sawyer Award, an Oscar statuette, at the Scientific and Technical Awards on March, 2, 2002.

Sting, who is nominated in the Best Song category and will perform on the Oscar telecast, also attended.
