STOKER is a thriller set in America. After her father's sudden death, India's mysterious uncle Charlie comes to stay with her and her mother. When other family members express concern about Charlie, India starts to realise he may not be quite what he seems and fears he may have sinister intentions. The film is rated 18 for strong sex, violence and sexualised violence.

The strongest sequence shows India masturbating in the shower as she recalls a violent killing she has witnessed. Sight of India masturbating is intercut with sight of the killing, which features a boy who has attempted to rape India being strangled with a leather belt as he lies on top of her with his jeans still pulled down. Eventually his neck snaps. The conflation of sexual and violent images requires an 18 classification.

There are other scenes of strong violence, including a shooting that results in a very large splatter of blood, with some focus placed on the blood glistening as it runs down the wall. There is also a very brutal killing in which a man is repeatedly beaten over the head with a rock as he sits in a car, causing blood to splatter back onto the killer.

The film deals with adult themes, including at times an incestuous desire between India and her uncle.

STOKER also includes some strong threat, including a scene in which a woman realises she is about to be killed and a sequence leading up to the murder of a child by being buried alive. The actual burial is not shown.

There is also some moderate bad language.

No-one younger than 18 may see an 18 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger that 18 may rent or buy an 18 rated video or DVD.
