Shivum Sharma – Flicker // OUTPUT

From the opening notes of Shivum Sharma’s “Flicker” one hears the grand array of influences listed on his own bandcamp. From Amy Winehouse to Aphex Twin, “Flicker” mixes a range of sounds from soul to elecontrica in five minutes and 31 seconds. Shivum’s velvety voice moulds itself around the words, obscuring them slightly but adding to the hazy feeling of the song.

There is something inherently nostalgic about the tune – it would make a great addition to any indie movie soundtrack. A slight melancholia underpins the song, and adds to the raw honesty felt.  A bit long, it looses a bit of steam before picking up again with vocal echoes and electronic manipulation. All in all, “Flicker” is great listen that makes you want to hear more of Shivum Sharma’s melange of a sound.
