Airing on the same day TCM’s treasured “31 Days of Oscar” series begins, the original documentary “And the Oscar Goes To...” (TCM at 8 p.m. Saturday) sheds light on the history of the Academy Awards through the eyes of Hollywood insiders. Features appearances from George Clooney, Liza Minnelli, Tom Hanks, Annette Bening and more.

“The Gabby Douglas Story” (Lifetime at 8 p.m.) tells the inspiring true story of the gymnastics phenomenon who overcame overwhelming odds in 2012 to become the first African American ever to be named individual all-around champion in artistic gymnastics at the Olympic Games. Stars Imani Hakim and Regina King.

Melissa McCarthy will host “SNL” (NBC at 11:30) with Imagine Dragons as musical guest.

On Sunday, game day begins with a bang (or should we say purr?) when the “Kitten Bowl” (Hallmark at noon) premieres as a new feline alternative to the “Puppy Bowl.” Expect a lot of napping and aimless staring.

“Puppy Bowl X” (Animal Planet at 3) is back for its 10th annual cuteness extravaganza, and this year’s halftime show features America’s favorite musically talented domestic animal from the Internet, Keyboard Cat, who will perform a Bruno Mars song.

“Fish Bowl” (Nat Geo Wild at 6) is literally a goldfish in a bowl. For four hours.

And then, finally, “Super Bowl XLVIII” (Fox at 6:30) kicks off with the Seattle Seahawks against the Denver Broncos at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Bruno Mars is the halftime entertainment.
