Eli Beeding Jr. died at his home in Marble on Dec. 21, 2013. He was 85.

Eli Lackland Beeding Jr. was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Sherman, Texas, to Eli and Helen (Johnson) Beeding Sr.
He married Joy Ann Leupold on Jan. 2, 1983, in San Antonio. She survives.
He attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He became an aerospace physiologist and completed medical research projects at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, N.M., that involved pre-manned space flight with champanzees, high altitude manned balloons, and a study on the impact of g-forces on the human body. He was listed in the Guinness Book of Records for sustaining the highest number of g-forces (82.6 g in a water-braked rocket sled in 1958). He retired from the Air Force in 1971 as a lieutenant colonel.
He moved to Marble 18 years ago from San Antonio, Texas. He was involved in the community and passionate about outdoor exercise.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Beeding of Marble; his son, Ford Lackland (Betty Jo) Beeding of Ann Arbor, Mich.; his daughters, Shari Clemons of San Antonio, Texas, Andrea Young and Amber Young; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley in Basalt.
