In her next film, Sonam Kapoor plays a girl who cons men into marrying her and then runs away with their money.

Sonam Kapoor, who so far has done all sane and sober roles, is set to shock her fans by playing a con woman in her next film! In Dolly Ki Doli (DKD) she plays a runaway bride. But unlike the Hollywood film by the same name in which lead actress Julia Roberts had commitment issues, this one is about a girl who gets married and runs away with the groom’s money!

Says a source, “When the script for DKD was offered to Sonam, she grabbed it for three reasons — she likes to work with people she is comfortable with, and she is rather fond of producer Arbaaz Khan. She instantly connected with debutant director Abhishek Dogra. And she loved the script.”

DKD is said to be a funny  film. A genre, that she has not attempted yet. “Sonam is at a stage in her career where she wants to experiment with roles and she is keen to do a film in the comedy genre. Aisha was a rom-com and more romance than comedy. In this film, she plays a con woman. The girl gets married to four-five guys, takes their money and runs away on their suhaag raat,” says the source.

Arbaaz confirms, “Yes, Sonam plays a runaway bride in my production. I was looking for interesting scripts, directors and cast. I liked Abhishek’s script. We developed it more and we are very excited about starting it in April. I wanted to do films that excite me — films that have drama, comedy,  romance, and songs. Quirky films which will cater to larger audiences. Sonam liked the script. We have finalised three other principal male characters — Pulkit Samrat, Rajkumar Rao and Varun Sharma.”

The original Runaway
Runaway Bride (1999) is a Hollywood film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and directed by Garry Marshall. Julia plays a bright and attractive young woman who leaves a trail of fiancés behind and three men waiting for her at the altar on their wedding day (all of which are caught on tape), thus receiving the nickname the runaway bride.
