The day before the big Kevin Durant-LeBron James showdown, James marveled that “Individually, he can’t be stopped by any one-on-one player. There’s nobody that can guard him one-on-one.”

On Wednesday night, the Miami Heat team couldn’t stop him.

The ballyhooed battle between the top two MVP candidates had its moments but fell a little short, with Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder running away with the game, 112-95, in Miami. Durant finished with 33 points, seven rebounds and five assists; James had 34 points, three rebounds and three assists. Durant now has scored 30 or more points in 12 games.

“My teammates, they just gave me the ball and told me to go, to make a play. [James] got hot for a quick second and I had to come and make an answer,” Durant said. “But it was fun. I’m sure the fans got what they wanted to see, but we would rather play a team game.”

With the Thunder up by 24, there were some MVP chants from the American Airlines crowd before much of it left early.

“They beat us good,” James said. “Outclassed? I don’t know if I’m going to go that far, but they came in and beat us pretty good.”

It was a pretty great win for Durant and Oklahoma City. Now let’s see ‘em do it when it really matters most.
