Biography

Current club: Manchester United

Welbeck, a 6’1” striker, has already seen plenty of first-team action at Manchester United, making his first Premier League appearance as a substitute against Stoke City in November 2008 when he was still only 17.

He even scored United’s fifth goal in a 5-0 win at Old Trafford, curling a 30-yarder into the top right corner. He went on to start games in The FA Cup and the Champions League, showing great skill and composure for a player of such tender years.

He was an U16 international at 14, coming on as a substitute against Wales in the Victory Shield, and then picked up eleven caps for the U17s in 2006-07.

For the Under-21s he substituted for Adam Johnson to make his debut at that level in the friendly against Ecuador in Malaga on 10 February 2009.

He spent the 2010-11 season on loan at Sunderland from Old Trafford.

But the 2011-12 season back at Old Trafford has been a real breakthrough one for the young striker who forms a lethal partnership with England teammate Wayne Rooney. He scored 12 goals up to May and also consolidated his place in the England squad, having made his debut against Ghana in March 2011.
