Honda Confirms No More Ads On Glenn Beck Or Fox News
On January 27, 2010 a Honda advertisement ran on Glenn Beck’s show in the UK. Shortly after, the Stop Beck – UK effort contacted Honda and urged them to stop sponsoring Glenn Beck. Honda advised that they will no longer be purchasing ads on Glenn Beck’s show or Fox News as a whole.
This brings the total number of dropped sponsors to 100.*
Honda’s original statement:
Thanks for taking the time to share your concerns with us. We are now at
the end of our advertising schedule with that channel and have noted your
comments.Honda is politically neutral and strives to exceed ethical standards. We
apply these policies to our communication strategy with our best endeavor
but as you say we cannot determine the program or editorial content around
which we advertise.
It was unclear on whether this meant their ads would be running in the future. So they were asked. On whether they would be running ads on Glenn Beck or Fox News in the future, Honda advised:
We have no plans to renew
Paul Ormond
General Manager, Corporate Press and PR
Preferable as it would have been for Honda to publicly admonish Glenn Beck’s vitriol, one reality remains: after being contacted their ads will no longer be running on all of Fox News, which also means their ad dollars will not be subsidizing Glenn Beck.
Big thanks to all those participating in this effort!
*Because the statement isn’t as strong as I would like it to be, this really feels more like 99 1/2 to me.

hmmm, beck is just too good at creating fog, controversy and a divisive atmosphere to take off the air … fox owners and fascists murdock and prince alwaleed bin talal al-saud will keep him on the payroll even if it’s out of pocket …

OK. Good decision on Honda’s part. The only real issue is why it took them so long to come to it and why is anyone still advertising on Beck or Fox?

I love my Honda. And I don’t feel Honda’s response here was less than 100%, I just think that they are serious and tactful about remaining as a-political as possible.

Thank you Honda!!!
I promise to look over Honda’s cars the next time I am in the market for a new vehicle. For more than 40 years, I’ve been buying & driving either Toyotas, or Lexus models. I have never even looked at a Honda….
Till now!!
Getting Honda’s advertising off fox was the best thing their company could ever do to attract me as a potential buyer.

I am a satisfied Honda owner and I support Honda in not advertising on controversial shows like Mr. Beck’s; shows which divide people and show lower ethical standards than Honda has

I'd like to know whether Honda advertises on the Ogermann show or “Thrill up my leg” Matthews. If so, then they do advertise on non-politically neutral shows, and are both hypocrites, and cowards to bowing to the wishes of the low life scum bags that run this web site and think that everyone is supposed to think lock-step in accordance with their view of the world. I have never boycotted a company for advertising on a liberal talk show, because it's a free country. Boycotts and mafia-like tactics to force companies to pull ads from shows that don't fit your agenda are childish and un-Amarican. Go live in North Korea if you hate Capitalism so much. I'm sure Kim has a rice field you can work in for slave wages.

I faithfully watch Beck's show and I will boycott those who boycott him! Bye bye Wal Mart, Best Buy, CVS, and Travelocity. I will now be heading to your competitors!!!

Was just thinking to buy a new Honda…..well, guess I won't. And of course, I refuse to buy a government motors vehicle. Guess I will look to Ford or Toyota……they will take my money as well as Honda would have. See, Van Jones, we can boycott also!!

Most of these advertisers refrain from advertising on “any” politically charged program, and are just saying what people want to hear to get them off their backs. It would be ridiculously unwise for any company to give in to this kind of pressure – if they did, it could get to the point where there are no shows they can advertise on. I don't doubt that some have given into pressure for this particular show, but those making such decisions are not being wise.
This whole idea of holding advertisers responsible for the content of the shows they run their ads on is really not effective, in my view. If you don't like the content of a show, then don't watch it. Glenn Beck gets very high ratings, and as long as it does, there will be plenty of companies willing to reach his audience. If you want to hurt him, the only way to do it is to convince people not to watch his show.
Being of a more conservative and libertarian viewpoint, there are a number of shows that I wouldn't waste my time watching, like the “Ed” show, or whatever it's called. I watched that once for a few minutes and couldn't believe how stupid it was. I have never watched it since, but it never occurred to me to boycott or pressure his advertisers. What a ridiculous waste of time that would be!
As for Glenn Beck, I have listened to his radio show, and watched his TV show many times. I don't agree with everything he has ever said, but I get information from many sources – TV, newspaper, web, radio, books – and I've never had the feeling that he was intentionally lying or trying to mislead. I actually find it refreshing to have someone who is actually trying to teach his audience about who the founders of the U.S. were and what they gave us. The things that I have heard people complain about as being lies are really matters of interpretation, or things that Beck was joking about, or sometimes exaggerating for effect, as we all do. It's pretty easy to tell which is which, but his critics are looking for the slightest thing and such things will be easy to find with any program.
Also, Beck makes it clear that his analysis is always opinion, and he encourages his listeners and viewers to research for themselves. I find that refreshing. Many people have become interested in things they should be interested in because of his shows. Even his critics should be happy about that, unless they don't want people to know the truth.
As for those who accuse him of having purely monetary motives, it should be obvious, if it's true that his show went without advertisers in the U.K. for a number of months, that that isn't the case. If he is really only in it for the money, then he's the best actor I've ever seen. The truth is, however, that I go to work every day mostly for the money – if I didn't need the money I think I would be doing other things – even though I like most of what I do, I don't think I would be reporting to an office very day. Before you hurl that accusation, perhaps you should look in the mirror first.

This is ridiculous!!! What next you are going to force people not to advertise in states that don’t support gay legislation, or how about stores that sell magazines that have people that comment on the left side or the right. Maybe we should not walk down streets that these people live on also so we are not next to them. This is America land of the free, no on should be trying to force anyone to have religious, political or any other types of freedom. Thats why they had the revolutionary war so they could break away from people who were trying to rid others of their rights and those who support them. Honda you’re an IDIOT do you really expect to please everyone. Impossible. Would you like it if people said don’t support Honda because they are Japanese and they bombed Pearl Harbor. I think that would have more validity than boycoting someone because he has the right to speak his mind.

I actually prefer Fox News for the most part; BUT, Glenn Beck and Neil Cavuto’s shows are the exceptions. Beck’s mixture of religious stuff and his pseudo-neoconservative thinking, is too much effort to piece his scatological act into a coherent program. Talk about a waste of time.

I agree with you 100%! ANYONE who has a different view than ours should not be aloud to speak their mind! God Bless America!
