Founded in 1929 by Henry Ford as the Edison Institute Schools, The Henry Ford has grown into America’s Greatest History Attraction. A single destination with five distinct attractions, it includes Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, The Henry Ford IMAX Theatre, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, and the Benson Ford Research Center – not to mention housing a public charter school, Henry Ford Academy, on its campus.

 

 

The Henry Ford is America’s largest indoor-outdoor museum and contains over 26 million artifacts, with over 10,000 available for viewing online. Hosting over 1.5 million visitors each year, The Henry Ford is dedicated to inspiring the community through the stories of innovators, past and present, using interpretive exhibits, activities, and educational resources. Many of The Henry Ford’s educational resources are available for free online for those who cannot visit in person.

 

 

The Henry Ford is committed to continuing Henry Ford’s philosophy of “learning by doing,” which has contributed to the institution’s status as a popular destination for community innovators. Already in its fourth year, Maker Faire Detroit, hosted by The Henry Ford, continues to inspire the community to be more innovative. In order to spread this message to young and aspiring innovators year round, The Henry Ford has introduced a monthly program called “Tinker Hack Invent Saturdays.” By welcoming crafters, hobbyists, tinkerers and makers to Henry Ford Museum the last Saturday of each month, The Henry Ford introduces visitors to the stories of creative members of the community and celebrates their ingenuity, resourcefulness, and innovation.

 

 

In order to take the idea of community innovation forward, The Henry Ford is pleased to be hosting two Maker Corps members through the Maker Education Initiative this summer. Working closely with the Maker Education Initiative and The Henry Ford, the Maker Corps members will be able to continue The Henry Ford’s legacy of motivating young learners to be more curious through hands-on activities and demonstrations.
