In Their Own Words

  • My friend and I drove here [to Atlanta] from Oklahoma City and I’m really glad we did…. Some would look on it as kind of crazy for us to come this far for this event, but there’s nothing else nearly as important as the question of freedom and liberty for all people everywhere… I closed my music store in Oklahoma for the week to be here, and I feel it was more than worth the loss of revenue. You all did a wonderful job. Very inspiring.
  • Thank you very much for presenting the Advocate’s program on Libertarian Persuasion last weekend. I enjoyed it greatly and learned much from it. I’ve also heard positive comments from its attendees… The Advocates method of libertarian persuasion is positive, thorough and structured – all things that lead to successful efforts to persuade and change policy and culture. Let’s plan more seminars for Indiana!
  • Thanks for all the great insights and tools to help me become a better communicator for freedom. I feel this seminar has strengthened my weaknesses and will make my strong points even stronger. I’m running for office this fall and I feel that the people are thirsty for something new and exciting, and this seminar is a start of something good if not great for me to speak for the cause.
  •  Your seminar was inspiring and informative. You gave me specific tools that I can apply to my activism to grow the party, to incorporate into candidate platforms and tools that will help me to continue to fine tune my responses to questions that are asked of me. I will attend another of your seminars, and I will highly recommend it to friends. Thank you for your patience, your wit and for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.

Great stuff from James W. Harris. Catch this and other great articles in the Liberator Online.

THEY SAID IT...

SECRETIVE US SPECIAL OP FORCES DEPLOYED WORLDWIDE: "A review of open-source information reveals that in 2012 and 2013, US Special Operations forces (SOF) were likely deployed to — or training, advising or operating with the personnel of — more than 100 foreign countries. And that's probably an undercount. In 2011, then-SOCOM spokesman Colonel Tim Nye told TomDispatch that Special Operations personnel were annually sent to 120 countries around the world. They were in, that is, about 60 percent of the nations on the planet. … SOCOM is weaving a complex web of alliances with government agencies at home and militaries abroad to ensure that it's at the center of every conceivable global hot spot and power center. In fact, Special Operations Command has turned the planet into a giant battlefield…" — award-winning journalist Nick Turse, "Why Are US Special Operations Forces Deployed in Over 100 Countries? That's over 60 percent of the nations on the planet," The Nation, January 7, 2014.

JUDGE: FOUNDERS WOULD BE "AGHAST" AT NSA: "[N]o court has ever recognized a special need sufficient to justify continuous, daily searches of virtually every American citizen without any particularized suspicion. … I have little doubt that the author of our Constitution, James Madison, who cautioned us to beware 'the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power,' would be aghast." — from U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon's Dec. 16 ruling that the National Security Agency's bulk collection of phone records was "almost certainly" unconstitutional. The issue seems headed to the Supreme Court.

SNOWDEN JUSTIFIED: "I acted on my belief that the NSA's mass surveillance programs would not withstand a constitutional challenge, and that the American public deserved a chance to see these issues determined by open courts. Today, a secret program authorized by a secret court was, when exposed to the light of day, found to violate Americans' rights. It is the first of many." — NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden reacting to U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon's Dec. 16 ruling (above).

OUR UNCONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT: "Article I, Section 8 of our Constitution lists the activities for which Congress is authorized to tax and spend. Nowhere on that list is there authority for Congress to tax and spend for: Medicare, Social Security, public education, farm subsidies, bank and business bailouts, food stamps and thousands of other activities that account for roughly two-thirds of the federal budget. Neither is there authority for congressional mandates to citizens about what type of health insurance they must purchase, how states and people may use their land, the speed at which they can drive, whether a library has wheelchair ramps, and the gallons of water used per toilet flush. The list of congressional violations of both the letter and spirit of the Constitution is virtually without end. Our derelict Supreme Court has given Congress sanction to do just about anything for which they can muster a majority vote." — economist and syndicated columnist Walter Williams, "Parting Company," Jan. 1, 2014.

JAY LENO STONES CONGRESS: "In defending the budget deal, Congressman Paul Ryan quoted the Rolling Stones and said, 'You can't always get what you want.' When it comes to Congress, here's a better Stones quote: 'Can't get no satisfaction.' How about that?" — Jay Leno Dec. 13, 2013.

New Technology In Economic Science.

Those familiar with Austrian economics know that Austrian economics is part of the tradition of classical liberalism. One of the most distinguishing features of Austrian economics is the use of the methodology of subjectivism.

In "Man, Economy, and State" *** Murray Rothbard pioneered the use of diagrams built upon subjectivism, done in contrast to the empirical diagrams that were and are used in economics by the empirically-minded. There were other attempts within the Austrian economics tradition to convey economic concepts using diagrams as a supplement, for example the Hayekian triangle ***. The detailed exploration of the use of diagrams to build a bridge between the Austrian business cycle theory and the empirically-oriented alternative (yet mainstream) theories that was done by Roger Garrison ***, is another example of pioneering work in this regard.

These and all of the too-many-to-mention other examples were and are great pedagogical steps offering alternative ways to understand the commonly recognized economic concepts and laws. But these disconnected diagrammatical examples of the power and use of the methodology of subjectiveness that supplemented and supported the causal-realistic logic did not coagulate into a technology.

Between 2005 and 2012 a new economic model - built using the methodology of subjectivism - provided a broad platform that included macroeconomics, microeconomics, ethical economics and economic justice. It is because it is so broad yet wholly integrated and deductively sound that it can be regarded as a new technology.

The series of models built using the methodology of subjectivism that constitute this new technology include:

Divine Economy Model
Divine Microeconomy Model
Model of the Ethics of the Divine Economy
Model of the Justice of the Divine Economy

This new technology is comparable to the technological advance made when the lens was first introduced. Things are clearer, and it amplifies the ability to focus, and new things not seen before are noticed. No one would deny that the lens was a welcome and useful technology. As an Austrian economist myself, I can testify that this new technology is timely and important.

*** For the active links associated with these three examples go to my Facebook page and find this post and then open the blog link.

When Minimum Wage Destroys Legitimate Jobs . . .

One of the many bizarre consequences of minimum wage and the minimum wage increases is an increase in the negative types of the underground economy. The next time you hear of identity theft blame the economic numbskulls who destroy legitimate jobs.

Why The Free Market?

The free market is the unhampered grace of the economic equilibrium forces. The alternative is the hampering (because of human incomprehension of its infinite nature) of the grace, and all of the consequent injustices and corruption that you see all around you.

Therefore, unequivocally, all economic intervention is immoral.

A Non-Propagandized Working Definition Of Capitalism.

The 'mixed' economy is not a variety of capitalism; it is a variety of statism. The ‘capital’ that exists in the ‘mixed’ economy is held captive by the State in a ‘mixed’ economy that leans towards socialism, and the ‘capital’ that exists in the more fascist version of the ‘mixed’ economy is undermined by counterfeiting and is made into a means and method of political bribery. To be able to critically evaluate capitalism, then, it is essential to examine its true nature, in a non-propagandized mode of operation.

First of all, if the true nature of capitalism was made known then everyone would reject statism for a whole host of reasons, economic and ethical. In other words the State has to propagandize, with falsity, capitalism or else statism would be cast into the dustbin of failed man-made systems. The self-preservation and lust for power of the State drives its proponents and agents to use propaganda tools to misinform everyone about free market capitalism.

Capital is what makes available goods and services in the future and it is what makes possible any and all improvements of the goods and services available. At the same time it is what pays the income of those who are a part of the production process, whether that production is for goods and services available right now in the market (unless revenues exceed costs), or whether that production is for goods and services that will come into the market in the future. There is no person in the world who is not a beneficiary of capital. It is simply and naturally a part of the economy.

Capitalism (a non-propagandized definition) is a synonym for an unhampered free market economy, a contractual society built upon the foundation of property rights. If you ponder the meaning of these words you will recognize that capitalism has not yet existed at any time on the Earth as of yet. What this means is that all of the negative attributes assigned to capitalism are really just the bad fruits of ‘mixed’ economies.

Theoretically, in both economics and in ethics, the unhampered free market economy is the optimal and the best means for peace and prosperity. There is empirical evidence from various historical examples of when relatively free markets existed for periods of time in various places around the world. None of these were unhampered free market economies or fully contractual societies built upon the foundation of property rights. There has always been some interventionism.

The critics of ‘capitalism’ are perceptive. They see the obvious flaws of the ‘mixed’ economy but because of the propagandized definition of capitalism they foolishly clamor for more statism! Such is the plight of humanity in these, the Dark Ages of economics. There is a technological breakthough in economic science that will help to dispel this blight of economic ignorance. That breakthrough is the divine economy theory.

CNN Poll: Support for legal marijuana soaring

politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com

Washington (CNN) -- In a major turnaround from past decades, a majority of Americans support legalizing marijuana, according to a new poll. The CNN/ORC International survey released Monday also indicated that the number of people who say smoking pot is morally wrong has plunged.

Joseph Moutard Let that 44% be solely responsible for paying the financial costs of prohibition and allow objectors to withhold their funding. Then, we will see how long it takes for those opinions to change.

Ego-Driven Interpretation And Ego-Driven Interventionism Spawned The State.

The origin of communism stems from heretical Christianity. Several early clerics succumbed to their own ego-driven interpretation, which lead them to conclude that property within the city-states should be common and these clerics embarked on social experiments of communism. From these origins came other ego-driven interpreters, trying their hands at replication. Later on, ego-driven interventionists came upon the scene and to them the need for a religious foundation dropped out yet pursuance of the perverse ideals of communism continued.

The emergence of the State and its prejudice of nationalism stems from the breaking of the Covenant of Muhammad. The epoch of human civilization that received the Dispensation of Muhammad cradled within itself the inherent characteristics of nationhood. Muhammad verbally appointed Ali as His Successor but once the Covenant was violated the means to carry out the true nature of the nation disappeared precisely during this epoch of fundamental nation-building. Instead of having a divine civilization characteristic of the time of nation-building what emerged was an ego-driven alternative. The energies released for the betterment of human civilization were used instead to gain power and led to the formation of the State. Thus we entered into a period of history where, instead of a divine civilization, the highest attainment was the darkness of nationalism.
