PEARCE VOTES TO SUPPORT OUR TROOPS

Washington, DC (June 14, 2013) – Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce voted for H.R. 1960, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2014.

“As operation drew down in Vietnam, Congress started to choke off funding and support for the war,” said Pearce.  “Today, I’m proud to vote for a bill that ensures our troops and all those defending our country have the tools they need, as we begin to end our time in Afghanistan.  At a time of uncertainty for all those defending our nation, this legislation includes a pay increase for our troops and increased funding for maintenance and readiness needs.  Additionally, this bill rejects the White House’s proposals to increase or create new TRICARE fees for our service members.  Most importantly, it includes the key funding and support that our armed forces need to combat terrorism and stand ready to defend freedom around the world.”

The NDAA also includes new measures and reforms to address sexual assault in the military, including protections for victims and changes to hold perpetrators accountable.  In addition, the bill includes new measures to support military families, and improve readiness and support for our troops.  It also includes funding and improvements to better respond to attacks like those in Benghazi, and to address strategic needs in Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, and worldwide.
