Breaking up is hard to do, even with TV shows

Tossing aside an old favourite can be a difficult proposition

But oh no, we just had to tune into Season 2 to watch their whole relationship disintegrate (yet again) and Hank return to his whiny, destructive ways (yet again). It didn't help that the show managed to make us suddenly hate our two favourite characters -- Charlie and Marcy -- in the process.

Why It Didn't Work Out: Despite what a lot of its masochistically loyal fans think, Heroes was never a great show -- it was a show with a promising first season. Those are two different things.

When the second season stuttered and slowly built to bizarre ridiculousness instead of continuing the series' momentum, we could all blame it on the Hollywood writers' strike. When the third season continued the descent into mediocrity -- the final straw being Suresh giving himself super powers -- we had to pull the plug.
