CPI(M) leader P.R. Rajan dead

CPI(M) leader and former Rajya Sabha member P.R. Rajan died on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 77.

He was the party district secretary from January 2005 to July 2006 when he was nominated Rajya Sabha member.

He was made party State committee member in 2005. He left the membership in 2012.

He had been member of the party district committee and district secretariat since 1991 and 1997.

He was formerly manager of the Thrissur unit of the party organ, Desabhimani . He was one of the founders of the NGO Union.

Son of Poyyara Raman and Narayani at Naduvilkkara in Vatanapally, Rajan was an officer with the Sales Tax Department.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

People from different walks of life visited his residence at Kanattukara to pay their last respects.

CPI(M) leaders were also present.

Defence Minister A. K. Antony called up the CPI(M) leader’s relatives and conveyed his condolence.

The body will be kept at the Town Hall here on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the public to pay homage.

The cremation will be held at the Lalur crematorium. —Special Correspondent
