Better than the previous editions

The latest version of the Fielding Bible does an excellent job covering all the aspects of how they grade each player. The vector system of "soft", "medium", and "hard" was modified in the latest edition which allowed it to generate even greater detail into its results. As usual, the individual write-ups for each player create a nice overview of their strengths and weaknesses. The essays are both detailed and informative, too, and may be my favorite part of the book.

If I had one nitpick it's that they may need to find a new editor. I found several instances of poor punctuation, uncapitalized letters at the beginning of sentences, and even a couple half sentences that seemed like they came out of nowhere.

If you're a baseball nut or just want to see how your favorite players grade on defense this is a book I highly recommend.

Projections and More!

This version of the Fielding Bible is far superior to the previous versions. They have clearly improved their system since the first two volumes and explain how they've done so in detail.

For me, the #1 feature was defensive projections for teams. They are a huge help in understanding which teams pitchers will perform better than expected and which ones worse in 2012.

There is an excellent article on the benefits of the shift and also a rehash of the Jeter sucks argument, but it now includes charts and detailed information that would strike doubt into even Minka Kelly.

There are plenty of comments and stats on teams and players and plenty of information that you may have never seen before.

My one complaint is that it lacks an index. There are so many sections that there is no way to find every place a player that interests you is mentioned with any kind of ease.

Great, Deep Reading

This book will teach you about the part of baseball that is underappreciated, defense. Talks about Ted Williams Shift and Derek Jeter's Lackluster D. Also gives ratings and rankings for players in the last 3 seasons. People who have F Bible I and II it is about the same but is worth the upgrade.
