Adam Lambert Helps Raise Over $500,000 For LGBT Families [VIDEO]

Out and proud pop rocker, Adam Lambert, contributed his celebrity and fantastic voice to the 10th annual Award Dinner for the Family Equality Council held at Universal Studios’ Globe Theater in Los Angeles.

Family Equality Council is an American organization based out of Boston that is committed to securing family equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning parents, guardians and allies. They are dedicated to “changing attitudes and policies to ensure all families are respected, loved, and celebrated,” according their official website.

Lambert entertained the audience with a rendition of ‘Mad World’, the cover that garnered him millions of fans while competing on ‘American Idol’. He was joined by Melissa Etheridge, who sang ‘Uprising of Love’, her new single that benefits the LGBT Russian community. ‘Glee’ star, Amber Riley’ sang ‘Who You Are’.

The star-studded event raised a record $571,000 for the organization, marking the Family Equality Council’s most successful fundraiser to date.

Brad Bredeweg and Peter Paige, creators of AMC Family drama ‘The Fosters’ and activist Jennifer Tyrrell were honored at the event. Tyrrel made headlines in 2012 when she was ousted as a den leader of her son’s Boy Scout troop because she is a lesbian. Over the last two years, she has led the charge to change the Boy Scouts of America’s ban on openly gay scouts and leaders, which was partially lifted due to her efforts on January 1st.
