I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...
Pompeii was not great, it was like Titanic with a volcano.
Really enjoying this episode, and can’t wait for GoT!
Have to agree though, Pompeii is not a good movie idea. It’s like history spoiled the plot and we all know the ending.
Feeling the urge to jump from a high place is called “The High Place Phenomenon”

As far as other thoughts like yelling the fuck word at toddlers, or I’ve even heard of people feeling compelled to grab a cop’s gun, or run their car off the road, I think the closest term is called a Morbid Impulse.
This was such a good interview! hopefully he comes back again but with Richard Madden as well.
He’s a FIFA player… well, that’s one thing I have in common with him.
.
I cant believe all the spoilers he revealed for the upcomming season of Game of Thrones…..these were some of the biggest surprises:
* One episode will feature a cross over with a popular motion picture when Daenerys and her dragons come face to face with a rag tag band of dwarfs as they battle Smaug
* Season finale will feature a classic twist ending where we find out that King Joffrey is really a very sweet and humble kid who’s been posing as an evil king to flush out the real evil mastermind…Arya Stark.
* Littlefinger meets his end at the hands of a masked knight from a neighboring kindom known as Sir Bain the Hard-to-Understand. (“perhaps he’s wondering why you would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane”)
* George RR Martin makes cameo as Santa…..angry Santa
* In an attempt to one-up the Red Wedding scene, Quentin Tarantino brought on board to guest direct an episode which will feature 60m of nothing but P.O.V shots of people being stabbed, repeatedly, with swords.
Peace .n. Go Team Tyrion!

@3ToF
I think in Westeros and Essos they call him angry Father Christmas.
I’ve never seen ‘Thrones.’ If I want to see a dwarf in a tunic, I’ll just go look at the one chained-up in my basement.
What Happened To The Quemments Ok, so by your logic people should stop make historic movies for ever. No more historic movies!! Fuck George Washington, fuck Lincoln…We all now the stories,we dont them?!?!?! REALLY?!?!?!?
@TheInternet: LOL!
@RJ_RedneckJedi: possible reference to Bloodsucking Freaks? #movies-that-cant-be-unseen, #the-horror..the-horror.
Great podcast.
Haven’t seen Pompeii but will say that it totally looks like 2012 with Jon Snow and less Woody Harrelson.
The best part of reading the books is knowing what is going to really happen this season.
The worst part of reading the books is knowing what is going to really happen this season and having to wait like everyone else to see it visualized.
They’ve been studying the “high places” phenom. I’m not sure if thise is the same thing but:

LOL best podcast ever xD I think I may be one of the very few who greatly enjoyed Pompeii xD
Holy crap, I have the same thing with sunken ships as Kit. It’s not a fear of death or anything, it’s just seeing the big thing there. One of the first time I noticed it was playing Super Mario 64 when you find and raise the sunken ship with the eel and stuff. It just gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Manchester United???!?! Too bad they can’t actually send him north to take the Black!
Intrusive thoughts!
One of my favorite weird things about the brain. If I remember correctly, it’s an extension of the brain’s self checking system. Pretty much an “am I doing what I should be doing right now?” kind of thing.
Like if I said don’t think about alligators, people’s minds tend to immediately think about alligators. The brain is checking to see if it’s not thinking about alligators by… thinking about alligators.
So it extends into social situations (making sure you don’t say fuck in front of a child, etc.) and potentially life threatening situations (jumping off a cliff). Your brain thinks of things you should NOT do, in order to ensure that you continue to not do those things.
This happens to people all the time and while it’s pretty frightening in the moment, I find it hilarious.
Glory Glory Man United!!!!!!
The urge to jump… I like the French description better: L’appel du Vide – The Call of the Void.
I just drove coastal highway 1 in Marin County in CA and got dizzy because of the constant twists and turns up and down mountains – and there are not always guardrails on the steep drops into ravines or the ocean!
I also think about randomly driving into oncoming traffic or off a cliff or something – what if I just did it!? I could just do it! – yes, it is very weird that we think these things haha
This was so much fun, I love how you always end up talking about such random thing, which are basically regular stuff that people can relate to, and it’s especially great when that person is so down to Earth and funny like Kit.
