Pakistan says development goals linked to stability, security -
UNITED NATIONS, March 4 (APP): While expressing support for several sustainable development goals proposed to be set out by the United Nations for next 15 years, Pakistan has emphasized that framework for their conception should take into account key elements like the fact that growth and development are dependent on stability and security. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative of Pakistan Ambassador Masood Khan said at a meeting of the Open Working Group that the country supports establishing standalone SDGs on poverty, education, health,  gender equality, and women’s empowerment,  water and sanitation,  energy,  industrialization, eco-system management, infrastructure development,  employment and decent work, and global partnership for development. 


Ambassador hopes larger participation of Pak traders in Kunming fair -
BEIJING, March 4 (APP): Ambassador Masood Khalid has hoped larger participation of Pakistani traders in the annual Kunming fair to be held in June this year. The Ambassador expressed these views here while addressing the promotional meeting of the 2nd China-South Asia Exposition and 22nd China Kunming Imports and Exports Fair to be held in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province from June 4-10. Ambassador Khalid said that he had the opportunity to attend the last year exhibition in Kunming and the large number of participation was the testament of its success. 


John Kerry hopes to visit Pakistan again: State Department -
WASHINGTON, March 4 (APP): The United States and Pakistan work closely  towards regional peace and stability and Secretary of State John Kerry hopes to visit the South Asian country again as part of bilateral engagement, the State Department said. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki stressed that Washington has an ongoing vital shared strategic interest with Pakistan in ending terrorism and pursuing a stable, peaceful, and prosperous region. The spokesperson referred to ongoing U.S. engagement with Pakistan including the Strategic Dialogue, adding that “the Secretary (Kerry) was there last summer.  He said he hopes to go again.”


Ambassador Jilani highlights Pakistan’s economic upturn -
WASHINGTON, March 4 (APP): Pakistan’s economy is now on upward  trajectory as a result of focused approach Islamabad is pursuing, as it also endeavors to meet exponential energy needs, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani said. The ambassador was addressing a welcome dinner hosted in his honor by the South Asian community of Maryland-Washington D.C. metro area led by Mr. Said Tarar and Mr. Jessie Singh. The World Bank and IMF, he said, have also testified to the upturn in Pakistan economy achieved in half a year after Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif introduced a series of policies and reforms to stimulate economic growth.


Another heavy snowstorm hits Washington area -
WASHINGTON, Mar 3 (APP): A heavy snowfall Monday hit Washington metro  area as yet another winter storm brought the region to a freezing standstill.  The government offices, schools and businesses were closed and public  transport services were also suspended in several areas in the D.C., Virginia and Maryland states. The District had received three inches of snow by midday. The Washington Post reported that the District and most other  jurisdictions declared snow emergencies with restrictions on vehicle parking on streets. The region will experience freezing cold weather in on Monday and Tuesday.

Pak men kabaddi team beat India
LAHORE, March 3 (APP)- Pakistan opened its campaign in the Pakistan-India Punjab Games on a confident note when hosts men team outshone Indian team 51-34 to win the Kabaddi title here on Monday at Punjab stadium. However, Pak Women Kabbadi team ran out of luck and was beaten by the Indian side 38-15. Pakistan joy was doubled when its wrestling team beat India in six bouts, out of total seven contested. MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, was the chief guest on the occasion.  Punjab Minister for Sports and Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan and Director General Sports Board Punjab, Usman Anwar were also present.

Zulfiqar stuns Asif in National Snooker with a century break
KARACHI, Mar 3 (APP): Unfancied Zulfiqar Qadir of Sindh pulled off a major shock when he defeated former IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif of Punjab 4-2 on the third day of Jubilee Insurance 39th National Snooker Championship at Karachi Gymkhana Billiards Hall on Monday which included a century break. Besides second seed Asif, third Shahid Aftab and fifth seed Abdul Sattar also suffered shock defeat.

KARACHI, Mar 3 (APP): Fast medium bowler Abid Hassan snapped-up 11 wickets in a match to bowl Omar Associates to an innings 29 runs over newcomer Face Fresh on the 3rd and final day of their Patrons Trophy Grade II at Jinnah Stadium Sialkot on Monday, according to informations received here.

Pakistan’s first one wicket win over India in 28 years
KARACHI, Mar 3 (APP): Pakistan achieved the unqiue feat of one wicket win over India in Asia Cup on Sunday thanks to Shahid Afridi’s double sixer strike after Javed Miandad achieved feat at Sharjah in the final of Australasia Cup in 1986. As Shahid Afridi dispatched the ball mightily into the Dhaka sky, the leading edge just about carried over the long-on fielder.

All three Patrons Trophy matches washed out
KARACHI, Mar 3 (APP): All the three matches of Patrons Cricket Trophy Grade-II in pool “A” staged at various grounds of the city ended in a draw following Monday morning rains. Judge, three lawyers among 11 killed, 29 injured in Kutcheri incident PDF Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD, Mar 3 (APP): At least 11 people including an Additional Session judge Rafaqat Awan, and three lawyers were killed while 29 others injured in firing and hand grenade attack in the district courts’ premises located here at F-8 sector on Monday. According to a list issued by the PIMS hospital includes, Rafaqat Ahmed Awan, Additional Session Judge, Rao Abdul Rashid, senior advocate, Tanveer Ahmed Shah, Advocate, Fiza Malik, advocate, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Regional Director AIOU, Muhammad Riaz, policeman, Akbar Umer Tariq, junior Munshi, Talib Hussain, court staff, Shabir, Haji Sanullah and an  unidentified person.The injured includes Raja Basharat, Waseem Iqbal, Mazhar Ali, Abdul Khaliq, Oun Azhar, Syed Obaidullah, Akmal Umer Tariq, Yasir Hameed Malik, Muhammad Hasnain, Muhammad Faisal, Nadeem Aziz, Mian Abdur Razzaq,  Muhammad Bashir, Nisar, Faizan Mahmood, Muhammad Ishtiaq, Nisar Ahmed, Ch.Maqsood Akhtar, Syed Obaidullah, Qazi Rafiuddin, Muzamil Hussain, Amin, Nadeem, Madiha, Muhammad Miskeen, Asadullah, Easa Khan, Shakir and Advocate Rai Azhar Hussain.
According to PIMS spokesperson, Dr. Ayesha Mushtaq, out of total injured, condition of five was stated to be critical.
PIMS, Dr Altaf informed the media that Oun was being provided medical treatment in ICU while Muhammad Ishtiaq and Chaudhry Maqsood Akhtar were in the operation theater He said presently, the injured were being provided medical treatment and police is investigating.
Vice Chancellor PIMS Javed Akhtar said the hospital had declared emergency and it was providing full medical treatment to the injured.
SSP, Islamabad, Dr Rizwan said that two young men entered Kutcheri premises and hurled hand grenades in the courtrooms besides opening indiscriminate firing.
Dr Rizwan said search operation was underway to clear the area, adding bodies and injured had been shifted to the PIMS.
According to eye witnesses, the attackers aged between 14-15 opened fire and threw hand grenade at different chambers of lawyers and judges.
