Hagel: FY15 Budget Request Matches Defense Strategy

Hagel Discusses Ukraine, Budget on 'Face the Nation'

Appearing on CBS’ “Face the Nation," Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel urged a diplomatic approach to resolve what he described as a “dangerous situation” in Ukraine. “This is a time for careful, wise, steady leadership,” Hagel told host Bob Schieffer in the interview, which aired March 2, 2014. Hagel also touched on the defense budget, noting the need to adjust to a more dangerous and complicated world.

U.S. soldiers carefully lowered a new piece of bridge in Zabul province, Afghanistan, Feb. 26, 2014. The soldiers are assigned to Missouri National Guard's 1438th Multirole Bridge Company. The unit has spent the majority of its deployment maintaining, building and sustaining bridges used by the local population in Afghanistan.
