H.R.H Princess Haya of Jordan |
H.R.H Princess Haya of Jordan
was born in 1974 and is one of King Hussein I of Jordan's daughters.
Educated in Great Britain, from an early age Princess Haya developed a
liking for horses and became a very good show jumper. In fact, at the
2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia Princess Haya represented
Jordan at show jumping.
Like the members of most royal families, Princess Haya has also
developed a passion for thoroughbred horseracing, and has owned some of
the most successful runners in recent years. One of the most recent
examples is her Jim Bolger-trained colt, New Approach, who in June 2008
won the prestigious 1 1/2 mile Epsom Derby at
Epsom Downs in south
London. |

And her good fortune has not stopped there. In October 2008, another of
Princess Haya's superb thoroughbreds, 3-year-old colt Raven's Pass, went
on to win the auspicious and highly lucrative $5 million Breeders Cup
Classic at
Santa Anita in California. Like the Epsom Derby, the
Breeders
Cup Classic is considered by many to be the most important thoroughbred
horse races in America. After being named the European champion 2-year-old in 2007 and winning the 2008 Epsom Derby,
New Approach was retired at the end of the 2008 racing season. |
