Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication (first-line oral treatment) is the methyl ester of fumaric acid, prescribed for multiple sclerosis.  

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications): Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity.

Category C : Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.


Dosage & When it is to be taken : PO- The recommended initial dose is 120 mg twice a day, for 7 days.

How it should be taken : It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.

Warnings and Precautions :  Caution should be exercised in patients with history of low white blood cell counts, any infection, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side Effects :  Most Common - Flushing, abdominal pain, diarrhea and nausea.
Blood - Decrease in white blood cells.
Gastrointestinal - Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion.
Skin - Itching, rash, redness.

Other Precautions :  Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions : Store at 15°C to 30°C.
