Sugarscape.com Safety Guidelines

We want sugarscape.com to be a safe and welcoming environment for teenagers of all ages. Working together with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection agency (CEOP), we have come up with a list of safety guidelines for scapers to follow in order to stay safe online

Please read the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy on this site carefully before registering as a user and before using this Sugarscape website.  If you do not agree to the Hearst Magazines UK Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy please discontinue your use of this service with immediate effect

If you are under the age of 12, you promise that your mother, father or guardian has allowed you to use this website and you promise that they will read the website’s Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy and that they agree to what is said.

You also agree to use the Sugarscape Safety Guidelines if you are under the age of 16 and agree that your mother, father or guardian has read these too.

TOP TIPS

Keep your private info private

Never give out private and personal information (your telephone number, email, home address, school instant messenger name, sugarscape password or any personal details) to people on sugarscape.com who you don’t know. Be cautious of people who ask you for too much information, even if you’ve 'known' them a while.

Never give out your password

Do not give out your sugarscape.com password to anyone, including us. Sugarscape.com will never ask for your password, so don't be fooled by anyone claiming they work at sugarscape.com and want your password. If you are using a public computer NEVER allow the computer to remember the password being used and ALWAYS log out. Report anyone who asks you for your password, even if they claim they are official sugarscape.com employees.

Ignore SPAM

While we take every care to avoid people spamming your sugarscape.com account, you will invariably receive SPAM (junk) emails to at least one of your email accounts. Our advice is don't believe it, reply to it or use it. The same applies to any suspicious looking attachments you might receive.

Don't talk to strangers

We know you've heard this before, but on the internet you need to be extra careful, as people are not always what they seem. Don't talk to anyone who makes you feel nervous, and if anyone says something to you or sends you something and it makes you feel uncomfortable, then don't respond. Always report someone if you think what they are doing is out of line.

Meeting up

It's always better to keep online mates online. Don't meet up with any strangers you have met online without an adult you trust being with you. If your 'friend' has a problem with that, they might not be who they say they are. It's better to be uncool than unsafe!

REPORT IT

Concerned about someone's dodgy behaviour online? Are they making you feel uncomfortable? If you are worried or concerned about something someone has sent you or you have seen online, or if someone is being abusive to you or someone else online, you can report it via the 'report it' link in your sugarscape inbox. Alternatively, report it right here.

This link will take you to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). This is like a virtual police station where you can make a complaint or report a problem. Your report will be seen by a 'special investigator' or social worker. They will contact you to help resolve your problem.
