American’s Tony Wroblicky shoots one-handed free throws

American University, as you likely know, will face Boston University for the Patriot League title and an automatic NCAA tournament berth on Wednesday evening. That means the Eagles will be on national television (CBS Sports Network). And that means a large audience will have a chance to watch senior Tony Wroblicky shoot free throws.

Wroblicky, if you haven’t heard, shoots his free throws one-handed, using only his left hand, from getting set in his shooting motion through his release. It’s the darndest thing.

And he shoots them well, too. The 6-foot-10, 23o-pound center has made 80 of his 112 attempts this year; both team highs. That makes him a 71.4 percent shooter, which is a tick above the team average.

He was even better in league play, going 58 f0r 76 (76.3 percent), making him one of the best free throw shooters on the team.

He’s made 5 of 6 attempts in two Patriot League tournament games, games in which he’s averaged 11.5 points, seven rebounds and six assists. (For the season, Wroblicky averages about 12 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds a game.)

Bog correspondent and local college basketball fan Jamie Jones got some video of Wroblicky’s form during the Eagles’ semifinal win over Holy Cross. It really is something. The full video is here.
