Moscow, Russia -

The Tolmachevy Twins gained the trophy for Russia achieving the impressive victory in the 2006 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Now, Anastasiya and Maria, talented and grown up stars, are facing another bigger challenge – the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest!

Today, the Russian broadcaster RTR announced the Tolmachevy Twins as their representatives in Copenhagen. This choice has been made internally by an expert jury. After eight years, Anastasiya and Maria, are back in the Eurovision world.

About Anastasiya and Maria

Maria and Anastasiya were born on the 14th of January 1997 in the city of Kursk that is in western Russia. Their talent for music showed at an early age. Their mother is a music teacher who was leading them. At the age of six girls took classes in the music studio Sverchok.

Eurovision fans remember the Tolmachevy Twins from 2006 when the girls, at the age of nine, won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Bucharest, Romania. With their song Vesennij Jazz (The Spring Jazz), they reached 154 points.

In 2007, the Tolmachevy Twins participated in the opening ceremony of the international festival of arts Slavianski Bazaar. In the same year, they also reveled their album Polovinki (The Halves). The sisters stared in the musical Kingdom Of Crooked Mirrors.

The Tolmachevy Twins took part in the opening act of the First Semi-Final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Dressed like angels, they landed on stage on the legendary animal called Firebird. Here you can recollect that exciting show in Moscow in 2009:

Initially, RTR intentended to choose the Russian participant through the project called Kto? (Who?). But the plans had been changed and the candidate has been chosen internally.

Actually Seoirse96, Russia may not have the "right" to be in the Eurovision Song Contest if they are involved in an act of aggression against another country, contrary to international law. I would also have supported my home country of the United Kingdom being banned from the competition after they committed an act of war against Iraq based upon lies of the US and the UK governments combined. My statement is not a political statement - it's one of common sense and basic diplomacy. I live in the USA and recognize the US Government (particularly under one of the political parties) has been involved in one atrocity after another.

Let's remember, the very raison d'etre of the Eurovision Song Contest was to bring some joy and togetherness to the countries which had exhausted themselves in war only ten years earlier. The EBU should not now or ever indulge countries which are involved in warlike actions against other participating countries.

    Respectfully! report to the moderator

Oh, I like these comments like "don't vote for..." :)
It turns out that I won't vote for Spain because of Basque Country; I won't vote for Cyprus because of the Turkish part of the island; UK because of Northern Ireland; Azerbaijan because of Karabakh; Serbia because of Kosovo; Turkey because of Kurds; I won't vote for UK and Spain twice because of Gibraltar! So whom will you vote for?
It all sounds silly. We should STOP it! Everyone will decide to vote or not to vote during the contest only after listening to the songs. report to the moderator

The very innocent Tolmachevy Twins have no idea what they have let themselves in for. I hope Europe will respect them and their, they have done nothing wrong. They can't be blamed for what the Russian leader decides to do.

NO BOOING PLEASE report to the moderator

I said before that I won't vote for them but this doesn't mean that they should be booed on stage these girls have nothing to do with what is happening and deserve to be treated right, I know this is a song contest but with everything that's happening it doesn't feel right to me to vote for Russia but everyone is free to do whatever they want, just don't boo them on stage is disrepectful report to the moderator
