the-avengersBrian Tyler has officially signed on to score Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and reunites the case of the original 2012 film, including Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Don Cheadle. James Spader will be portraying Ultron, the main villain in the film, while Elizabeth Olsen has been cast as the Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Paul Bettany as the Vision and Thomas Kretschmann as Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker. Kevin Feige is producing the project. Alan Silvestri scored the first installment in the series. Tyler had been rumored to score the sequel for several months after he was hired for both Marvel features in 2013, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. The composer also composed the music for the TV special Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe, which premiered on ABC last night. Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently in production and will be released on May 1, 2015 by Walt Disney Pictures.

As previously reported, Tyler also has Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as Steven Quale’s Into the Storm coming up this summer. He is also set to score the action sequel Fast & Furious 7, which has been rescheduled to open on April 10, 2015 since our last update.

    Awesome news!

  2. JAMO says:

After a big desilusion with Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes a great new… of course i would preffer David Newman (based on his Tarzan score) but Brian for me is a modern John Williams

  3. John N says:

Loved his scores to Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 last year! I think Thor 2 was the strongest Marvel score yet (Now You See me was really cool too, just saw it on cable). Looking forward to seeing what he does with the Avengers!

  4. Macejko says:

Happy to see Marvel is keeping their new minion so that far better composers can work on more decent movies. Tyler’s soulless music is perfect por Marvel’s soulless movies.

  5. Kevin says:

I like Brian Tyler’s work; I thought he was a hidden gem of the Fast & Furious crew. But I also like Alan Silvestri’s work on Avengers. That film brought Silvestri out of his doldrums, when he was recycling his militaristic bag of tricks from Judge Dredd on GI Joe and The A-Team. Plus, Silvestri’s work on Avengers gained a thematic cohesion from his Captain America score. Granted, Tyler’s work is the new thematic cohesion in Marvel, given his scoring of the studio’s own anthem. And Tyler has the best Iron Man score (though I still prefer Doyle’s work on the first Thor). I’m glad Jackman decided to reuse portions of Silvestri’s Captain America theme if only for a little bit. Maybe Tyler will give a tip of the hat to Silvestri in Age of Ultron. Who knows.

    • John N says:

The Avengers 2 story looks epic, Spader is going to play Ultron, Tyler scoring.
      IS IT MAY 2015 YET??

And yeah Kevin I’m sure he will. Tyler even gave a nod to Silvestri’s Cap score in Thor 2. And good point about the Marvel Studio anthem. Its badass.

  6. Simone says:

Tyler’s “Into Eternity” from Thor The Dark World was one of the most moving pieces I have heard in a long time, the music that accompanied the funeral sequence. Haunting and SOULFUL. And his Iron Man 3 had the best main credits music of last year! Very glad to see this.

  7. tiago says:

I agree with @Kevin, Silvestri’s score for the first Avengers was really great. But to choose Tyler was an smart choice by Marvel. Now, its films may finally get some musical cohesion. Well, Tyler used Captain America’s theme on his Thor 2 score, and I hope that he uses the Avengers’ theme as well.

  8. Roger says:

so how big is that paycheck gonna be?

    • Justin Boggan says:

A fraction of a random Williams’ paycheck.
