TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - As a freshman, Florida State's Greg Reid did not waste time making his mark with the Seminoles. From his collegiate debut, when he intercepted a pass from his cornerback position and piled up more than 100 yards in kick returns against Miami, Reid set himself apart from the rest.

At halftime of Saturday's Garnet & Gold Spring Game, Reid's value to the Seminoles in 2009 will once again be confirmed when he accepts the College Football Performance Award's Elite Series trophy for his outstanding contributions as a punt returner. Reid led the nation among Football Bowl Subdivision returners, averaging nearly 19 yards a touch.

Brad Smith, founder and executive CEO of the College Football Performance Awards, has a special interest in special teams recognition. A former All-American kicker at Davidson, who transferred for his final season of eligibility to USC, Smith has developed formulas for evaluating a players' value at every position in an unique way that is without bias.

Reid will accept the shimmering trophy, made of the highest grade crystal set on a granite base, at halftime of the spring game at Doak Campbell Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
