Belgium: Belgium withdraw from Junior Eurovision

Broadcaster to focus on local show only.

After participating in all of the past 10 Junior Eurovision Song Contests, Flemish children’s broadcaster Ketnet, a subsidiary of VRT has decided not to send an entrant to the 11th edition, set to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine in November.

The decision was made on the grounds that the selection for Junior Eurovision was by far more popular than the international final, and by withdrawing from Junior Eurovision they are able to focus more attention on creating a new talent show for young musicians, set to be announced later.

Belgium participated in all 10 editions but did not make the top 3 in any of their participations, with their best result coming in 2009 when Laura Omloop came 4th with ‘Zo Verliefd (Yodelo)’. Last year they achieved their second best result in Amsterdam when Fabian came 5th with Abracadabra.
