VisionClear

VisionClear

In an ideal world, a television would offer the same superb picture, no matter from where in a room it was viewed. Ideally, it should also adapt its picture according to the changing light conditions of the room. And different sources would require different picture-enhancement treatment from others, depending on the quality of that source.

VisionClear is a simple name for a long list of technologies that the viewer experiences but never notices. It’s all done automatically and without viewer interaction and it addresses the fact that people watch television around the clock and in different lighting conditions: from broad daylight to pitch darkness. It begins from the moment the BeoVision television set is switched on and within less than a second the system adjusts contrast levels, brilliance and colour to match the unique light conditions of the room. This is undertaken until such time as the set is swiched off.

Incorporated in all BeoVision television sets is a sensor which automatically adjusts the set to the room’s constantly changing lighting conditions. If a curtain is closed or a lamp is illuminated the BeoVision automatically adjusts itself to the new lighting conditions. Likewise, if sunlight should suddenly flood the room, the Automatic Picture Control again steps in to adjust brightness, colour and contrast automatically. And fifty times every second, the colour balance is automatically regulated to give the viewer the most lifelike picture possible.

VisionClear

The VisionClear concept includes the following elements: Contrast Screen, Dynamic Luminance Peaking, Colour transient Improvement, Scan Velocity Modulation, Automatic Cut-Off, Automatic Picture Control, Wideband CTI and Adaptive Luminance Peaking (and RGB Scan Velocity Modulation on the Beovision Avant), Adaptive Black and Motion Compensation:

  • An (optional) Contrast Screen sits in front of the viewed screen and tones down the effects of strong light ensuring that the TV picture stays bright
  • Dynamic Luminance Peaking gives more accentuated rendition of small details and increased sharpness
  • Colour Transient Improvement (CTI) gives the colours sharper edges, which is especially noticeable when figures in complementary colours are placed next to each other (e.g. in sports’ programmes)
  • Scan Velocity Modulation optimises the electron beam to improve the transition from black to white
  • Auto Cut-Off Control ensures brilliant stability of the picture throughout the lifetime of the TV
  • Automatic Picture Control controls virtually all picture adjustments necessary to give the viewer the best possible picture all the time
  • Adaptive Luminance Peaking functions automatically by the system detecting boundaries between objects in the picture and simultaneously monitoring their colour and contrast whereby transitions are slightly emphasised. The result is pictures that are sharpened more where boundaries are closer to one another in terms of colour and contrast, and less where the differences in colour and contrast are greater
  • Maintaining a proper black level is ensured by the employment of advanced Adaptive Black circuitry. Reading the content of the current on-screen image, VisionClear automatically increases colour saturation on very light images on the one hand, while keeping black details from drifting into grey upon a content shift
  • Motion Compensation: motion in pictures is a great challenge for modern digital television. To counter the well-known problem of ’staggering images’ a software application called Film Mode is used. This is an automatic feature which detects if the content for a TV transmission or media was originally produced as cinematic film.
