RANTI MARTINS TOPS LIST WITH 184 GOALS

NEW DELHI: East Bengal Striker Chidi Edeh became the fifth entrant to the 100 Goal Club in National Football League/I-League when he scored the third goal for East Bengal against Mohammedan Sporting at the Round 24 encounter of the Airtel I-League at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday, April 5.

The Nigerian Striker stayed on 99 goals prior to the kick-off of the match, in which East Bengal got past Mohammedan 3-1. Chidi got the better of Luis Barreto, the opposition goalkeeper, during a one-on-one duel in the 62nd minute of the match, after all the Mohammedan players deemed it to be an offside.

The other four members of the Elite Club are Ranti Martins, Odafa Okolie, Jose Yusif Yakubu and Jose Ramirez Barreto.

As on April 5, 2014, Ranti tops the chart with 184 goals followed by Odafa on 165 goals. Yakubu is third on the list with 143 goals with Barreto fourth on 101 goals. (Barreto’s goals in 2nd division League for Bhawanipore FC haven’t been taken into consideration).

Among the Indians, Bhaichung Bhutia stays on top of the chart with 89 goals followed by the present Indian National Team Captain Sunil Chhetri on 78 goals. Both Abhishek Yadav and Ashim Biswas stay next on 40 goals while RC Prakash stays fifth on 38 goals.
