Description of the BSN Completion Entry Option
The BSN Completion Entry Option was planned specifically for the registered nurse whose career goals will be enhanced through additional study. The BSN Completion Entry Option is tailored for RNs that have an associate’s degree and wish to advance their career by getting a bachelor's degree. The entry option is designed to facilitate either part- time or full-time study.
The nursing curriculum builds on the knowledge gained in the student’s previous degree. We believe that the baccalaureate degree introduces practicing nurses to new ideas and approaches essential to nursing in the 21st century. Our curriculum incorporates principles of leadership and ethics, and focuses on the management of patient populations using emerging technologies. Students learn more about contemporary professional issues and how to use evidence to guide nursing practice. Global health and informatics are unique elements of our BSN completion entry option.
Plan of Study and Degree Requirements
The BSN degree requires 124 semester hours for graduation, 47 semester credit hours may be transferred from another academic institution, and forty five proficiency credits are granted for current nursing knowledge, skills and current North Carolina RN license. Prospective students are required to complete pre-requisites at local community colleges prior to seeking admission to the BSN Completion Option. Many of the courses required as pre-requisites are taken in Associate Degree Nursing Programs.
There are 13 required nursing courses. These courses can be completed in 12 months of full time study. Students should plan to commit an average of 8-12 hours per week in direct course time particularly in the clinical or laboratory courses. Full-time students will enter the entry option in August and will graduate in August of the following year.
Admission Process
Prospective students should submit an application packet (completed application and official transcripts) to the School of Nursing by the stated deadline. Early applications will more likely result in enrollment in the preferred student cohort. Applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee within the School of Nursing and after the applicant has been accepted, he or she will apply for admission to North Carolina A&T
State University for enrollment in the fall semester.
