The Nationals can tie the major league record for consecutive games with a grand slam tonight in Atlanta. It’s a feat worthy of fireworks, but given Turner Field’s track record with pyrotechnics this season, it’s probably a good thing the Braves won’t celebrate an accomplishment by the visiting team.
On Wednesday, Jayson Werth’s eighth-inning slam made the Nationals’ early 5-0 deficit a distant memory. On Thursday, Ian Desmond’s eighth-inning slam broke open a close game and ensured a Nationals sweep.
Desmond’s second career slam also provided one joyous fan in the right place at the right time with a souvenir. This is more or less my reaction when I see the Nationals atop the NL East standings, as they are now by two games.

I hope she kept it. And if you’re hoping to score your own souvenir at a future game, consider the section next to the visiting team’s bullpen. Werth’s two-run shot in the third inning landed a couple rows and a few seats away from Desmond’s slam.
