PARIS, September 10 (Ligue 1) - Paris St Germain moved into second place in Ligue 1 after Bonaventure Kalou's goal was enough to beat a struggling 10-man Strasbourg.

The Ivory Coast striker linked up with fellow forward Pedro Pauleta to slot home left-footed past Stephane Cassard in the 29th minute.

Despite the narrow victory margin the result lifted the Parisians above Lens, who did not play Saturday.

PSG dominated for most of the match and just 12 minutes in Cassard was called upon to save well from midfielder Jerome Rothen, while Christophe Landrin should have done better faced with a one-on-one with the keeper moments later but he delayed too long.

Ten minutes before half-time Landrin found himself in a good position but his cross for Pauleta was too close to Cassard who grabbed the loose ball.

Strasbourg's first real chance came four minutes after the interval but striker Salim Arrache's shot was blocked by defender Bilayi Ateba.

Normal service was resumed in the 51st minute when Kalou and midfielder Sergei Semak advanced the ball upfield before the latter shot straight at Cassard.

With 65 minutes gone Strasbourg midfielder Hosni Ebrahim was sent off for a second bookable offence after clattering into Vikash Dhorasoo but even then PSG could not force home their numerical advantage.

Pauleta's 79th-minute free-kick was PSG's final chance of the half but from 25 yards he fired over.

Cassard was the only Strasbourg player to emerge with any credit but even his top-class performance could not prevent defeat.
