MCW rookie stats

There’s very little doubt left who should be this year’s NBA Rookie of the Year. Numbers-wise Michael Carter-Williams has done things not seen in the NBA in generations, blowing away his rookie competition in almost every statistical category. Is this a product of being one of the few options on a fast-paced / horrifically bad team? Surely that plays its part, but let’s not deny MCW credit for putting up rookie numbers this rare. He’s a point guard who had 11 or more rebounds eight times this season. Eight! Hell five games ago he realized he stinks at shooting threes, stopped shooting threes all together, and has averaged a ridiculous 51.2% field goal percentage. Making more than half his shots. As a point guard.

In regards to this recent history of averaging 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists as a rookie, some guys came close…

…but technically none of them hit the 16/6/6 mark like MCW did this year. The work he did in his first NBA season deserves recognition from all sports fans and not just insane homers like me.

Maybe ESPN will do MCW a solid and say something nice as a change of pace from last month’s The Sixers Are Shitty countdown.
