'X-Men: Apocalypse' Announced for May 2016

20th Century Fox's superhero franchise has grossed more than $2 billion worldwide

Sensing it has a hit on its hands with “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” 20th Century Fox is prepping another installment in the blockbuster superhero franchise titled ”X-Men: Apocalypse” that will hit theaters on May 27, 2016, according to Exhibitor Relations.

Director Bryan Singer confirmed the sequel in a vague tweet that read “#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!”

20th Century Fox is clearly confident about its “X-Men” franchise, as the new movie will directly compete against Disney's “Alice in Wonderland” sequel. The first film grossed more than one billion dollars worldwide, though it was reviled by critics.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” won't kick-off the superhero season thanks to an untitled Marvel movie that's due on May 6, 2016, though it will beat “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” to the big screen, as the Sony sequel won't swing into theaters until June 10, 2016.

Apocalypse is an ancient mutant who appears in the Marvel comics. In 2008, the character was ranked #3 at Marvel.com on the site's list of Top 10 X-Men villains, and the following year, IGN ranked Apocalypse as the 24th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.

20th Century Fox will release “X-Men: Days of Future Past” on May 23, 2014.

The “X-Men” franchise has grossed more than $2 billion worldwide when factoring in the “Wolverine” spinoffs.

Great! Another Wolverine movie with some X-Men in it.

how dare you don't notice the following: SIR IAN MCKELLAN, SIR PATRICK STEWART, MICHEAL FASSBENDER, JAMES MCAVOY, JENNIFER LAWRENCE

      • Joe

I do notice them. And they're all great and I wish they could save the day for a change. Every X-man movie (except origins) Wolverine saves the and it's getting old. The Avengers was done right. Every hero shined. In the X-men movies, they're just there so Wolverine can save them

    • James Jameson

LOL….I get it. No matter the movie, they always focuse on Wolverine somehow don't they ?

      • Earl Salisbury

Did you fail to watch the most awesome X-men movie to date? Wolverine only got in 3 words in X-Men: First Class

        • James Jameson

And why did they even need Wolverine to make an appearance in that movie at all???

  • James Jameson

since Michael Clark Duncan has passed the only other people i could see playing Apocalypse is Dennis Haysber from the Allstate commercials, Kevin Grevioux from the Underworld movies or maybe even Idris Elba (after seeing him play Heimdall in Thor)

Really? Cumberbatch could be very menacing. Vin Diesel has the physicality, as does Dwayne Johnson since Apocalypse is usually drawn bulky. Or you could go with a niche star like Adam Baldwin or Karl Urban. Just saying…there are a lot of cool ways to do Apocalypse. Hell, if they went really big, I think Denzel would kill this role.

    Jaden Smith for Apocalypse

I wish they could come to some type of agreement to merge the Fox portion of Marvel with Disneys. They could really crank out some of the best movies ever made and many of them could hit that coveted ten figure mark in sales. Disney is winning the race anyways, it would benefit Fox to either sell for a mountain of money and a fraction of profit, or come to some agreement to pay for borrowing heroes. The only people suffering here are the consumer. They should get to see the stories intertwined the way that they were meant to be by their creator, not how they want to spin them to sensationalize them to make money, when they could make twice as many films and ten times the money giving people what they want. They have both already made the DC world look silly (I will get blasted for this), and I am including Batman in there as well. The thought of Superman and Batman doesn't even interest me. What the hell is the city going to be named Gotham or Metropolis. The Green Lantern shit the bed, and went off the silly end. Man of Steel was a let down. What are they going to do revive the Flash (snoozefest), Aquaman, the only option they really have is Justice League. The Marvel movies could have 15 phases if they pooled resources and release a new movie every quarter if they played their cards right, and that would make all of us Marvel fans very very happy money spending monkeys.
