Conservation Partnerships Program

Private landholders can make a real contribution to the liveability of the Gold Coast.

Most of the habitat supporting our native plants and animals is found on private properties - not in National Parks or reserves. Your own bush block or farm could even be home to some of the region's rare and threatened species.

Through the Conservation Partnerships Program, Gold Coast City Council can help you protect wildlife habitat on your property, and restore bushland that has been cleared or disturbed.

The program offers support to landowners who own property with one or more hectares of native vegetation (or have the potential to restore and regenerate native vegetation). It incorporates three voluntary schemes with different levels of support, to help you protect and restore your bushland:

  1. Bushland Health Checks - free site visit and practical advice about your property's flora and fauna
  2. Land for Wildlife - free site visit, ongoing support and practical advice on habitat conservation and restoration
  3. Voluntary Conservation Agreements - financial and practical assistance to protect and manage your native bushland.
Ute and Jens Sohnrey

"Not knowing much about native plants and animals on our property, we are very grateful for the help we receive from Land for Wildlife officers. They are always willing to visit our property if we need help with weed management, or we’re struggling to identify plants. Knowing that even a small property like ours can play an important role in supporting some threatened and vulnerable species is reward enough for us."

- Ute and Jens Sohnrey, Clagiraba

Council also produces a Landholder's Guide to Biodiversity to assist property owners in managing bushland as wildlife habitat.
