A National Stamp Collection for the Falklands

Thanks to the efforts of the Falkland Islands Philatelic Study Group, the Museum now holds a full collection of local stamps, up to 1999.

The Dockyard

The museum is moving.

The museum is moving to the Government Dockyard.

The first stage of this development which will enable us to expand and improve our exhibitions in a site which can be considered the historical heart of Stanley,is planned to be complete in July 2014. 

Apart from greatly enhancing access to the museum for both visitors and the local community, the move will give us better storage.

Learning about Falklands' history

For a relatively young country, the fact that the Falkland Islands has a fascinating and diverse history often surprises our visitors. 

We hope soon to add fact sheets and resources for teachers to this site, but if you need particular information and cannot find it here or in our "Collections" or "Articles", please contact us for details of research facilities.

The Evans Warrah: A Valuable Scientific Discovery

Earlier this year, 13-year-old Dale Evans found some fascinating bones on this family's farm. These were shown to be the remains of a Warrah - Charles Darwin's "fox-like wolf" unique to the Falklands - a species extinct since the 1880s.

The Warrah's existence on the Islands is an enigma. Could this discovery provide valuable new information?
