Walt Disney channels to be distributed by STAR

NEW DELHI: Walt Disney is bringing in two channels in India. Disney Channel and Toon Disney will be launched together on Friday, 17 December 2004.

The distribution agreement was signed today between Walt Disney Television International Asia Pacific and STAR Group.

Commenting on the deal, Rajat Jain, MD Walt Disney Television International (India) and The Walt Disney Company (India) private limited said, "India is one of the world's largest kids audiences and the launch of Disney Channel and Toon Disney will not only have a major impact on the way the Disney brand is enjoyed in India but also in the development of the Indian pay television business."

While the Disney Channel will bring in host of originally produced Disney programs for both kids and the families, Toon Disney would become the home of animation built from the best cartoons from the Disney and Saban libraries.

Michelle Guthrie, CEO of STAR said," The addition of Disney Channel and Toon Disney to the STAR bouquet of channels will make us the natural home for kids and family viewing in India."

The deal was inked by Doug Miller, executive vice president WDTVI-AP and Walt Disney International and Michelle Guthrie of STAR.
