Any applicant who wishes to perform the work of a sign erector in the City of Columbus must first be licensed.
The work of a general or limited sign erector includes, but is not limited to, the erection, maintenance and removal of any permanent, illuminated exterior sign, permanent neon graphic or neon outline lighting, exterior or interior, any graphic on an exterior illuminated awning, permanent, non-illuminated exterior sign more than ten square feet in area and a temporary exterior sign more than 16 square feet in area.
City of Columbus (licensed) General Sign Erectors may erect and service all graphics allowed by the City of Columbus Graphics Code.
City of Columbus (licensed) Limited Sign Erectors shall only engage in the erection, maintenance, and removal of painted and non-illuminated graphics no more than 64 square feet in area, limited to 16 feet in height, and not installed over the public right-of-way.

, applicants are required to have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the erection and fabrication of signs.
In order to be licensed in the City of Columbus as a
Limited Sign Erector
, applicants are required to have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the erection and fabrication of signs.

Chapter 3381 IMPLEMENTATION
The Board of Sign Erectors meets once per month. Applicants must submit their application (and fee) no later than 1 week prior to the next scheduled board meeting.
Applicants are not required to be present at the board meeting. However, contractors may appear before the board of Sign Erectors for the following reasons.
- Adjudications
- Due process complaints (filed against or by the contractor)
