The National Gallery of Art, located on the National Mall between 3rd and 9th Streets along Constitution Avenue NW, is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Gallery is closed on December 25 and January 1.

The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, located on the National Mall at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue NW, is bounded by Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive and by 7th and 9th Streets NW.

West Building

Designed by John Russell Pope and completed in 1941, this original neoclassical building houses paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and other works of art, as well as temporary exhibitions.

Easily recognizable by its distinctive shape, the East Building was designed by I.M. Pei and completed in 1978. It houses modern and contemporary art and temporary exhibitions.

Sculpture Garden

An oasis in the city, the 6.1-acre Sculpture Garden is home to modern large-scale sculpture, as well as the Friday night Jazz in the Garden concert series (in summer) and an ice rink (in winter).

Public Transportation
The nearest Metrorail stops are Judiciary Square on the Red Line, Archives–Penn Quarter–Navy Memorial on the Yellow/Green Lines, and Smithsonian on the Blue/Orange Lines. Metrobus stops are located on 4th Street and 7th Street NW.

Taxicabs are easily hailed in most areas of the city and often wait for Gallery patrons between the East and West Buildings on 4th Street NW.

Parking and Accessibility
Public parking is limited to the surrounding streets and commercial garages. Parking spaces, ramps, and elevators provide access to public areas and galleries for visitors with disabilities at the East Building entrance on 4th Street NW and the West Building entrance on Constitution Avenue at 6th Street NW.

Entrances
The East and West Buildings are connected by an underground concourse with a moving walkway. Entrances to the West Building are on the Mall, on 7th Street, on Constitution Avenue at 6th Street, and on 4th Street NW. The entrance to the East Building is on 4th Street.

There are six public entrances to the Sculpture Garden: one on Constitution Avenue at 9th Street, three on 7th Street (one directly across from the Gallery's West Building entrance), and two on the National Mall between 7th and 9th Streets NW.
