Dejan Lovren has been confirmed as a member of Croatia’s 30-man provisional squad for Brazil’s FIFA World Cup in June.

The Saints centre-back, who has represented Croatia at every age group since breaking through at Under-17 level and has accumulated 23 caps at senior level, will face the hosts, Mexico and Cameroon in Group A.

Firstly, Lovren will have to contend with pre-tournament friendlies against Mali, followed by Australia a week before beginning World Cup duty in a competition opener against five-time winners Brazil at 9pm BST on Thursday 12th June.

From his list of appearances for Croatia’s full team, the defender has notched two goals – one of which aided his nation’s path to this summer’s tournament when he netted in a two-one victory over Wales in the qualifiers.

Lovren isn’t the only representative travelling from England, with Hull City striker Nikica Jelavic and QPR midfielder Niko Kranjcar also making the 30.
